A typical shift

You sign in, take over a console from the person leaving, and put on the headset. The next 10 or 12 hours are calls: a car crash, a false alarm, a kid who dialled by accident, a heart attack where you count compressions out loud, a domestic dispute. Between calls you update records and track where every unit is. You rarely find out how any of it ended.
