A typical day
Check the overnight backups and alerts first. Then tickets: a developer needs a new table, a report is slow, a user needs access. Project work in the afternoon: planning an upgrade, testing a restore, moving a system to the cloud. Big changes happen at night or on weekends when nobody is using the database. If you are on call, an outage can arrive at any hour, and the whole company is waiting on you.
