A typical shift

Read the log from the shift before you. Check who slept in the building and who did not come back. A morning of phone calls: a landlord, a probation officer, a pharmacy, a food bank. Someone arrives in crisis and the next two hours belong to them. The afternoon is forms, a housing application, a benefits appeal, a referral. The last hour is case notes. You leave knowing one person had a better day and three others did not.
