A typical day

A short team stand-up, then heads-down work: writing the code that defines servers, networks and permissions, reviewing a teammate's changes, and watching the monitoring dashboards. A developer asks why their app is slow; you find a database sized wrong. Finance asks why last month's bill jumped; you find test machines nobody turned off. Afternoons often go to a migration project, moving an old system out of a data centre piece by piece. On-call weeks add the occasional late-night page.
