A typical day

Depends on the role. Design engineers spend the day in software modelling structures, drainage or roads, and writing reports. Site engineers are outdoors inspecting construction, solving problems and coordinating contractors. Municipal engineers review plans and manage capital projects. Most careers blend all three over time.
