A typical day

Four or five one-hour appointments. A recent graduate with no idea what to do. Someone laid off after 22 years at one plant. A newcomer whose engineering degree is not recognized here. Between sessions you write case notes, update a provincial reporting system, and call employers to see who is hiring. Once or twice a week you run a workshop on interviews or resumes for a room of people who would rather be somewhere else.
