Sign in at the garage, inspect lights, brakes, tires and doors, then take your bus out. A transit shift is a set of trips up and down one route with short recovery time at each end, and you hold the schedule while dealing with traffic, fares and passengers. Split shifts are common: a morning rush block, several unpaid hours off, then an afternoon block. Seniority decides who gets the good work.
