A typical day

Most working authors write in a protected block, often early morning, of two to four hours. That is the real limit for most people, not laziness. The rest of the day is the paid work that funds the writing, plus research, emails with an editor, proofs to check, and events to arrange. Publishing runs slowly: a book sold today may appear in eighteen months, and you will be writing the next one by then.
